Halloween team events that are not a costume contest
The one date in the corporate year where a team will forgive you for being strange. Spend it on a story with actual stakes rather than a call where three people wear hats.
When to book
Halloween events run October 15 to November 1, and the good slots go in late September. The last week of October books out first, and Friday October 31 goes earliest of all.
What teams ask for
- Atmosphere over gore. Something people can join from a family kitchen without explaining themselves.
- A reason to turn the camera on that is not an order to turn the camera on.
- One session that holds the whole team, not three staggered runs of twenty.
What to steer clear of
- Anything that asks people to dress up. Half the team will not, and they will be the half that quietly leaves.
- Horror that earns a complaint. Tension is the product, jump scares are a liability.
Questions we get
- How close to Halloween can we still book?
- Three business days for a live hosted game, ten if you want it branded or the story rewritten around your team. The constraint is the host's calendar, not the build.
- Will people who hate Halloween still take part?
- The games are mysteries and adventures with an October mood, not horror. Nobody is asked to be scared, and nobody is asked to perform.
- Can we run it across time zones?
- Yes. Either a live session at an hour that works for most, or a marathon where each person plays their own stage during their own day.
Coca-Cola HBC
- The brief
- LearnFest runs for the whole company. The closing event had to hold 6,000 people across 28 countries at the same time, on one connection, with no installs.
- What we built
- Two 30-minute virtual journeys back to back, Tokyo then New York, hosted end to end.

Citibank
- The brief
- 800 people in a banking operation, on shifts and in branches, who could not all be online at any one hour.
- What we built
- Game Marathon over a single day, branded, about 10 minutes per person, played whenever their shift allowed.

Playrix
- The brief
- A global mobile-games studio wanted an event their people would recognise as theirs, not as a vendor's template with a logo dropped on it.
- What we built
- Austin, their own character, rebuilt as a playable NPC: he greets the team, sets the tasks and reacts to what they do.
